Elderly man collapses after alleged dog attack in Canning Town

An elderly man is reported to have collapsed in Star Lane, Canning Town, following an alleged dog attack. Police cordoned off the area on Wednesday morning, with forensics teams present at the scene. The incident is understood to have occurred on Tuesday, September 8.

Witness accounts of the incident

Shopkeepers in the vicinity described the event. One shopkeeper, whose business was closed due to the incident, alleged that an elderly man died after being bitten on the hand by a dog. Another shopkeeper stated that the man was walking his small dog from a nearby park when a customer's large dog allegedly attacked. This witness reported hearing that the elderly man fell to the ground while attempting to protect his pet, though they did not witness the attack directly.

Concerns over area's reputation

Residents have expressed ongoing concerns about the area, with one long-term resident referring to Star Lane as 'problem corner'. This resident stated that the area frequently experiences issues with people drinking and using drugs, leading to trouble. The resident also mentioned that police have been informed of these issues but claimed that no action has been taken, adding that the neighbourhood has 'really changed'.

The road was expected to remain closed for much of Wednesday. Police have been contacted for further comment.
