Fireworks were discharged towards Lauderdale Road Synagogue in Westminster on Sunday, September 13. The incident occurred on the second night of Rosh Hashanah, a Jewish holy festival.

Security footage reportedly shows five individuals approaching the synagogue. Four are alleged to have launched objects towards the building while a fifth kept watch. A Jewish family with young children had reportedly passed the location moments before the incident.

Police response and investigation

Metropolitan Police officers were called to the scene at 15:56hrs on Sunday, September 13. The suspects had left the location prior to police arrival. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing, including the analysis of CCTV footage. No arrests have been made at this time. The police have appealed for information, asking anyone with details to contact them on 101, quoting reference 4572/13SEP.

In response to the incident, additional police patrols have been implemented to provide reassurance to Jewish communities during this religious period.
