Four stabbed in Covent Garden as two die in separate London incidents

Four men were stabbed in central London on 5 August 2026, in an incident police have linked to mental health. The attack occurred on Endell Street, near Covent Garden, at 12:27 pm. Two of the victims remain in hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, while the other two have been discharged.

The Metropolitan Police arrested a 47-year-old woman at the scene on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault. Officers recovered a pair of scissors, which they believe were used in the attack. The police stated the incident was mental health-related but did not provide further details.

Separate fatal incidents across London

A man in his 20s died after a motorbike crash on Aspen Way in Poplar at 3:25 am on 5 August. The Metropolitan Police confirmed it was a single-vehicle incident. The East India Dock Road Tunnel and Aspen Way remain closed while investigations continue. The man’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

In Lewisham, a 28-year-old woman was found dead on Connington Road at 5:58 am on the same day. Police were called after reports of an unresponsive woman and declared her dead at the scene. A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death, which is being treated as unexpected. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for 8 August.

Earlier stabbing in Chingford Mount

On 4 August, a 24-year-old man was treated for stab wounds and a head injury after an incident on Brook Crescent in Chingford Mount at 7:38 pm. No arrests have been made in connection with the attack, and police have not released further details about the circumstances.

The Metropolitan Police has not indicated whether the incidents are linked. Investigations into all cases are ongoing, and residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant while police conduct enquiries.

What happens next

The post-mortem examination for the woman found dead in Lewisham will take place on 8 August. Police have not confirmed when Aspen Way in Poplar will reopen. The Metropolitan Police continues to investigate all incidents and has urged anyone with information to come forward.
