Haringey: Gunshots fired in Green Lanes machete confrontation

A firearm was discharged on Green Lanes in Haringey on Tuesday, September 29, during a confrontation between two men, one of whom was armed with a machete. The incident occurred at approximately 11am in broad daylight.

Witness Account of Confrontation

A witness reported seeing a gunman fire two shots from a pistol at a man approximately 20 yards away. The witness, who spoke to Metro, stated that both individuals' faces were uncovered and that they appeared to have been arguing before the shots were fired. "There was a bullet casing in the road," the resident said, adding that one of the shots struck a metal door, causing a dent. The witness expressed concern for public safety, stating, "An innocent person could easily have been killed."

Police Response and Investigation

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to reports of gunshots at 11am. A spokesperson for the force stated that at the time of their confirmation, neither a victim nor a suspect had been identified. A crime scene was established for initial enquiries, and residents were informed of an expected increase in police presence and potential travel disruption due to road closures. One bullet reportedly hit a door, causing a significant dent, while another was believed to have struck a car occupied by four people, narrowly missing them. A woman was reported to have collapsed in shock and received assistance from bystanders. The suspected gunman is believed to have left the scene in a vehicle, while individuals described as alleged knifemen ran towards Pemberton Road.
