Man arrested after assault in Woolwich leaves 30-year-old injured

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital after an assault in Beresford Square, Woolwich, on the evening of 2 August. The incident occurred near the entrance to the Elizabeth line station at around 7:50 pm.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service. The victim sustained injuries that were described as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

Arrest made in Greenwich

A 52-year-old man was arrested in Greenwich shortly after the assault. Police said he remains in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The investigation is continuing.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at around 7:50 pm on Sunday, 2 August, to a report of an assault in Beresford Square, Woolwich. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service."

Ambulance response

The London Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance to the scene. The first paramedic arrived within five minutes.

The service confirmed that the victim was treated at the scene before being transported to a major trauma centre by road. No further details about the victim’s condition have been released.
