A 34-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of murder following a fatal fire at a residential address on Berkeley Avenue, Hounslow. The blaze, which occurred around 01:15 BST on Wednesday, 19 August, resulted in the death of a 48-year-old woman who passed away in hospital. Eight other individuals were injured during the incident.

Injuries and ongoing condition

Of the eight people injured, one woman, aged 40, continues to receive hospital treatment and is in a life-threatening condition. The remaining seven injured individuals, comprising six men and one woman, have since been discharged from hospital after being treated for minor injuries. The next-of-kin of the deceased woman have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Arrest and investigation

The arrested man was apprehended by officers from Kent Police on Sunday, 23 August, as he was travelling to France by train. He remains in custody. Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, stated that the inquiry is continuing at pace. Detectives are working to establish a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the fire and are actively pursuing multiple lines of inquiry. The Metropolitan Police have appealed for any witnesses or individuals with information or footage relevant to the incident to come forward.
