Sergiu Leahu, 40, has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Newham. Masum Miah, 42, died at the scene on St Bartholomew’s Road after sustaining gunshot wounds. Leahu, who has no fixed address, appeared before Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 August.

Investigation Details

Officers from the Metropolitan Police attended St Bartholomew’s Road at approximately 03:00 AM on Tuesday, 18 August, after receiving reports of a shooting. They were joined by the London Ambulance Service. Mr Miah was discovered at the location with gunshot injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Miah’s family is currently being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, leading the investigation, stated that his thoughts remain with Mr Miah’s family. The police are continuing to appeal for any information that could assist their inquiries.

Appeal for Information

Investigators are specifically requesting information regarding a black Nissan Duke observed in the vicinity of St Bartholomew's Road between the evening of Monday, 17 August, and the early hours of Tuesday, 18 August. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting, witnessed any suspicious activity, or possesses dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage that could aid the investigation is urged to come forward. Information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, could be crucial in establishing the full circumstances of the incident.
