Man fatally stabbed near Wembley Stadium; murder probe launched

Police have launched a murder investigation following a fatal stabbing near Wembley Stadium. Officers were called to Engineers Way, close to the Brent Civic Centre, at approximately 2:30pm on August 25. On arrival, they found a young man, believed to be a teenager or in his early twenties, with stab wounds. Paramedics attended but pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time, and authorities are working to identify the victim and inform his next of kin. The investigation aims to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. Superintendent Chris Clarke, leading emergency response policing for the area, stated that the incident was 'awful' and that the force was committed to keeping residents informed.

Increased Police Powers Authorised

In response to the stabbing, additional stop and search powers have been authorised for officers. A Section 60 order is now in place, covering the Wembley Park, Barnhill, Tokyngton, Stonebridge, Roundwood, Dollis Hill, Willesden, and Welsh Harp wards. This order grants police enhanced authority to stop and search individuals and vehicles within these areas. Superintendent Clarke indicated that there would be an increased police presence in the vicinity.

Councillor Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, described the stabbing as 'deeply tragic'. Police have stated they do not believe there is a wider threat to the community and that the incident is not being treated as terror-related. Road closures were in place on Engineers Way and Empire Way and Rutherford Way as enquiries continued. The investigation remains ongoing.
