Man in 40s shot dead in Newham car, no arrests made

A man in his 40s was found with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle on St Bartholomew’s Road, Newham, in the early hours of 18 August 2026. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services shortly after police were called at around 03:00.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the victim’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. The force has not released the man’s name.

Police appeal for witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, who is leading the investigation, said the incident would cause concern in the local area. He urged anyone with information to come forward.
