A murder investigation has been launched after a 40-year-old man died following a shooting in East Acton. Police were called to the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street at 7.47pm on October 2 following reports of gunshots. Officers found a man with a suspected gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services.

Memorial Service Disrupted

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, stated that the incident occurred during a memorial service. "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a man whose life was taken in a senseless act of violence," DCI Howie said. "We understand a large number of people had gathered for a memorial service and what should have been a time to come together in remembrance has instead left a family devastated."

A crime scene was established in Braybrook Street. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to confirm the cause of death. The victim’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Appeal for Witnesses

Police believe between 40 and 50 people, including children, were present at the time of the shooting. DCI Howie appealed for anyone with information to come forward. "Someone knows what happened and we need them to come forward," he stated. He urged anyone who was in the vicinity of Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or Wormwood Scrubs playground between 6pm and 8pm to consider what they may have seen. This includes any suspicious activity involving individuals carrying weapons, people on bicycles, or vehicles being driven at speed. Police are also seeking photographic, video, dashcam, doorbell, or mobile phone footage, as well as any relevant social media content.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference CAD 7011/2Oct. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
