A murder investigation has been launched after a 40-year-old man was fatally shot in East Acton on the evening of 2 October 2026. The Metropolitan Police were called to the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street at 19:47 GMT following reports of multiple gunshots.

Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the location. The victim's family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

Memorial Service Interrupted

The shooting took place during a memorial service, which was attended by between 40 and 50 people, including children. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, described the incident as a "senseless act of violence".

Mr Howie stated, "We understand a large number of people had gathered for a memorial service and what should have been a time to come together in remembrance has instead left a family devastated." He added that "someone knows what happened and we need them to come forward."

Police Appeal for Information

As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made. A police cordon remains in place around the crime scene on Braybrook Street. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to confirm the exact cause of death, though the victim is believed to have sustained a gunshot wound.

Detective Chief Inspector Howie is urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or Wormwood Scrubs playground between 18:00 and 20:00 on 2 October 2026 to come forward. He specifically asked if anyone saw individuals carrying weapons, people on bicycles acting suspiciously, or vehicles being driven at speed.

The police are also seeking any photographs, video footage, dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone recordings, or anything seen on social media that may be relevant. Information can be provided anonymously by calling 101, quoting CAD 7011/2Oct, or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
