A man was pronounced dead after gunshots were fired at a vehicle in St Bartholomew’s Road, East Ham, in the early hours of 18 August 2026. Emergency services arrived at the scene just before 3 am following reports of shots fired.

The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was found in a car suffering from gunshot wounds. Bangladeshi media have named him as Masum Ahmed, aged 40. The Metropolitan Police have not yet confirmed his identity.

Family informed of death

Family members of the victim told Bangladeshi media that police visited their home at around 4 am to confirm his identity. They were then informed of his death. According to the same reports, Masum Ahmed had lived in the UK since childhood and is survived by a daughter.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police said shots were fired towards a white vehicle, which was left abandoned at an angle across the residential street. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
