A man in his 70s has died following a medical incident in Canning Town, Newham, which police are investigating as a suspected dog attack. The Metropolitan Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to Star Lane, near the junction of Durham Road, at approximately 7:27 pm on Tuesday, September 8.

Officers attended the scene and found a man in his 70s who was taken to hospital as a priority. He later died from his injuries. The man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Investigation into incident

Initial inquiries suggest the man may have been bitten by a dog shortly before suffering a cardiac arrest. The owner of the dog reportedly left the scene before police arrived. A 56-year-old man was arrested on September 9 on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in custody.

As part of the investigation, officers have seized a dog. The incident led to the closure of Star Lane between Manor Road and Durham Road from 5 am on September 9. A cordon was in place while officers conducted their work at the scene. The road reopened at 11:57 am.
