Rose Smith, 75, dies after Tollington Park burglary
A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary.

Police were called to the address at approximately 9:20pm on August 11. Ms Smith was assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital, where she died at 9:39pm the following evening. A picture of Ms Smith was shared by her family through the Metropolitan Police.
Family tribute
Ms Smith's family described her as a "truly wonderful, outgoing woman" who was loved by many. They shared that she enjoyed bingo, visiting cafés with friends, and most importantly, spending time with her family, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Her family stated she was "the life and soul of every party" and remembered her for her "wonderful personality, a big heart and a way of bringing laughter and happiness wherever she went."
Investigation and arrest
A 46-year-old man was arrested on August 21 on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary. He remains in police custody. An 81-year-old man present at the scene was treated for injuries and discharged from hospital the following day.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink, who is leading the investigation, acknowledged the concern within the local community. He stated that an increased police presence has been maintained in Tollington Park. DCI Massink appealed for anyone with information, including doorbell footage, to come forward, emphasising that no detail is too small.
