Victoria line passenger undergoes surgery after unprovoked attack between Stockwell and Vauxhall

A passenger on a Victoria line train underwent surgery after being violently assaulted between Stockwell and Vauxhall stations on the morning of 10 July 2026. The attack left the victim with serious leg injuries, according to British Transport Police.

The incident took place at approximately 11:10 am. Police described the assault as unprovoked, with the victim reportedly unknown to the attacker. The victim was repeatedly kicked in the legs, stomach, and arms before being taken to hospital.

Police appeal for witnesses

British Transport Police Constable Robert Jeavons said the attack appeared random and targeted a man who was simply travelling on the Tube. He confirmed that the injuries sustained were severe enough to require surgery.

Jeavons added that several passengers were present in the carriage at the time of the assault. Some intervened to stop the attack. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward.

Suspect description released

The suspect is described as a South Asian male in his mid-to-late twenties, approximately six feet tall with a medium build and a full black beard. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black baseball hat, a blue t-shirt, black shorts, and was carrying a black backpack and sling bag.

Police also noted that the suspect was accompanied by a woman during the incident. Witnesses are asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 166 of 10 July. Reports can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

What happens next

British Transport Police are continuing their investigation into the assault. No arrests have been made as of 11 July 2026. The force has urged anyone with information, including mobile phone footage, to come forward to assist with their enquiries.
