Woman Raped in Westminster Doorway; Police Release CCTV

Detectives are appealing for the public's help to identify a suspect following the rape of a woman in Westminster. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 22 August, when a woman in her 20s was approached by an unknown man.

The victim was walking through Shaftesbury Avenue, Cambridge Circus, and Drury Lane before she was dragged into a doorway in Macklin Street. The assault took place around 05:20 hrs. The woman managed to escape and reported the incident to the police shortly afterwards. She is currently receiving support from specialist officers and dedicated services.

Investigation and Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley, who is leading the investigation, stated that identifying the man is a priority. Officers have been conducting urgent enquiries and have gathered CCTV footage showing a man in the vicinity of Lisle Street and Drury Lane. Further CCTV footage has now been obtained from the area.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 ft 8 ins tall, with short brown hair. Detective Chief Inspector Ridley noted that the man spent a considerable amount of time moving alone through the West End for at least two hours during the early hours of that Saturday morning. He believes someone may recognise the individual from his appearance, clothing, or movements.

While there is no evidence at this stage linking this offence to any other incidents, police stress the importance of speaking to the man as soon as possible. They urge anyone who may recognise him to come forward, emphasizing that any piece of information, however small, could be significant.
