Driver jailed for 10 years and nine months for killing cyclist
Tiffany Treanor-Johnson was speeding at 53mph in a 20mph zone when she struck and killed Harry Webb in Hackney.
Tiffany Treanor-Johnson has been sentenced to 10 years and nine months in prison for killing music student Harry Webb. Treanor-Johnson was speeding at 53mph in a 20mph zone in Hackney on September 10, 2023, when she collided with Mr Webb, who died days later in hospital.
Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that Treanor-Johnson had been inhaling nitrous oxide, a class C drug, before the crash. The collision took place at the junction of Kenworthy Road and Hassett Road. After hitting Mr Webb, Treanor-Johnson drove onto the pavement and into another car before leaving the scene.
Victim's final moments
Harry Webb, aged 27, was a student at the London College of Contemporary Music (LCCM). He had moved into new accommodation earlier on the day of the collision to start his second year of studies. He was speaking to his father on the phone at the time of the incident, which caused a traumatic head injury. A member of the public found Mr Webb's phone and informed his father of the situation.
Mr Webb's mother, Pat, described her son's death as the end of her life, stating that she cannot bear waking up without him. His father, Mike, expressed feeling helpless being miles away when the collision occurred. Friends also paid tribute to Mr Webb, describing him as fun, caring, intelligent, and wonderfully caring.
Driver's actions after collision
Following the collision, Treanor-Johnson's Audi struck a red Citroen. The driver of the Citroen, Brenton Henry, pulled forward to stop her vehicle. He then took Treanor-Johnson's car keys to prevent her from leaving the scene. Police arrived and arrested Treanor-Johnson, finding fragments of balloons used for inhaling nitrous oxide in her car.
Treanor-Johnson initially denied causing death by dangerous driving but later changed her plea to guilty in April. Judge Rosa Dean stated that Treanor-Johnson was solely to blame for the collision and was likely impaired due to taking nitrous oxide. She was disqualified from driving for 10 years.
