Four jailed for serious crimes across South London
Sentences handed down for shooting, ULEZ camera bombing, monkey torture and indecent exposure.
Incident → evidence → outcomeFour men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for a series of serious crimes across South London. The sentences cover incidents including a shooting outside a Bexleyheath nightclub, the bombing of a ULEZ camera in Sidcup, and involvement in an international monkey torture network.
Bexleyheath Nightclub Shooting
Marvin Bulle, 33, and Carlos Parks, 35, have been jailed for their roles in a shooting outside a Bexleyheath nightclub on January 4. The victim was shot in the face at point-blank range following what police described as a minor altercation. He sustained critical injuries and spent eight days in intensive care, almost losing sight in his right eye. Ambulance dash camera footage showed Bulle firing the gun. Parks acted as the getaway driver, crashing his vehicle approximately 100 metres from the scene. Bulle was sentenced to 35 years for attempted murder, and Parks received 20 years for grievous bodily harm with intent, as reported by the Wandsworth Guardian.
ULEZ Camera Bombing
Kevin Rees, 64, of Harcourt Avenue in Sidcup, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for using a homemade bomb to destroy a ULEZ camera. The incident occurred on Willersley Avenue in Sidcup around 6.45pm on December 6, 2023. Rees was found guilty of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property. The prosecution stated that the explosion sent shrapnel into a parked van and a passing car, and damaged a child's bedroom window frame. A judge concluded Rees's offending had a "terrorist connection", according to the Wandsworth Guardian.
Monkey Torture Network
Bartosz Poklek, 30, of Hartslock Drive in Abbey Wood, has been sentenced to three years and three months for leading an international network involved in torturing and killing monkeys. Poklek distributed cruelty videos, wrote scripts for animal torture, and directed methods of killing, including bludgeoning. Judge Christopher Grout described the case as "horrific" and noted that Poklek would serve approximately one-third of his sentence. The judge also commented that the current maximum penalty for animal cruelty, which is five years, appeared too low for such offences, as reported by the Wandsworth Guardian.
Indecent Exposure on Trains
Roman Scott, 35, of Brunswick Road in Sutton, has been jailed for six months for five counts of exposure on trains. Between December 14 and December 15 last year, Scott exposed himself on multiple occasions, including on services from Victoria station and between Southampton and Bournemouth. He also exposed himself in a ladies' toilet in Bournemouth and blocked a young woman on a train to Manchester, making sexual advances. Rail staff identified Scott as the same individual involved in the toilet incident, as detailed by the Wandsworth Guardian.
