A spokesperson for the WPB responded to Baroness Jones's remarks by questioning her suitability to discuss parliamentary elections, noting her position as an unelected member of the House of Lords. The WPB stated that Baroness Jones had repeatedly failed to be elected as a Member of Parliament herself. Mr Galloway, 72, is currently undertaking a speaking tour in South Africa, with engagements planned until October 4, just four days before the by-election in Camden.

The by-election was triggered by Sir Keir Starmer's resignation as the local Member of Parliament. It remains uncertain whether Mr Galloway will be present in London for the contest. His registered address on Camden Council's candidate list for the by-election is in the Dumfries & Galloway constituency in Scotland.

Previous Detention and Campaigning Status

Mr Galloway and his wife were detained by counter-terrorism police at Gatwick Airport in September 2025. They were returning to the UK from Moscow via Abu Dhabi. Both were released without arrest. The WPB indicated that Mr Galloway is awaiting official confirmation from the Home Office or police that he is "free to carry on with political campaigning" before actively participating on the ground in Holborn and St Pancras. The Home Office reportedly sees no impediment to his return to the UK, based on legal advice and correspondence.
