Greenford sisters' deaths ruled suicides by coroner
Three siblings from west London were found dead in the sea at Brighton.
Three sisters who lived together in Greenford, west London, died by suicide, a coroner has ruled. Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were discovered off the coast of Brighton in the early hours of May 13. An inquest at Woodvale Coroner’s Court in Brighton concluded that the siblings took their own lives.
Circumstances of death
Penelope Schofield, senior coroner, stated that on the night of May 13, the women entered the sea at Brighton during darkness. She noted that they were unable to swim and that sea conditions were unfavourable. The women had travelled to Birmingham the previous evening, stopping near their late mother’s former residence before returning to London. They then took a pre-booked taxi to Brighton, arriving near the seafront at 10:21pm. CCTV footage from the beach indicated they were last seen alive at 2:42am.
RNLI crews brought Ms Adetoro to shore, where she was pronounced dead at the scene. Lifeboat crews recovered Christina Walters, and Rebecca Walters was found on the shore. Paramedics confirmed both sisters deceased. Post-mortem examinations confirmed drowning as the cause of death for all three, with no indications of drugs, alcohol, or violence.
Father's tribute
The coroner commented that the sisters led very private lives and the reasons for their actions, or their choice of Brighton as the location, remain unknown. "It is not for the court to speculate and sadly these reasons may never be known," Ms Schofield told the court. Their father, Joseph Jacobson, expressed his profound grief, stating, "There are no words that can adequately express the pain of losing a child. To lose all three of my precious daughters, Jane, Christina and Rebecca, is a heartbreak beyond anything I could ever have imagined."
