Former Liverpool FC winger Jordon Ibe has received a 12-month community order after assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The incident occurred outside her home in Lambeth on December 14. Ibe pulled a braid from Amie Mayson’s hair during a dispute.

Court proceedings

Croydon Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday that Ms Mayson had confronted Ibe about money she claimed he owed her. Following her request for repayment, Ibe responded negatively. He then grabbed her arm and hair, pulling a braid from her head. The court was informed that the assault left Ms Mayson feeling that her confidence and self-worth were diminished.

Sentencing and costs

Magistrate Brij Kalia sentenced Ibe to the 12-month community order, which includes 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also fined £764. This total comprises a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs.

Ms Mayson, in a victim impact statement, described the significant physical and mental impact of the incident. She also conveyed feelings of compassion for Ibe and stated that forgiveness was part of her healing process.
