Anthony Durkan, aged 36, has been jailed for four years after pleading guilty to 26 charges of voyeurism. The sentencing took place at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday. Durkan filmed women through the windows of their homes in Islington over a six-year period, from January 2020 until his arrest in March 2026.

Pattern of offending

The offending came to light after a woman reported a man repeatedly attending her home and filming through her windows in the early hours of the morning. Her neighbour had witnessed a man dressed in black, wearing a balaclava, holding a mobile phone up to the property's windows. Weeks later, another woman reported a similar incident, confronting the suspect who then fled. This incident was captured on security camera footage.

Following these reports, the Metropolitan Police increased targeted patrols in the Islington area. Officers on a proactive patrol in March 2026 apprehended Durkan while he was engaged in the same behaviour. A subsequent examination of devices seized from Durkan revealed evidence of numerous other voyeurism offences. Hundreds of images and videos of women were discovered, and officers are still working to determine the total number of victims.

Investigation continues

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger, who led the investigation, described Durkan's actions as a "calculated and deeply intrusive campaign of offending." She added that many victims were unaware they were being filmed in their own homes. DCI Alger praised the courage of the victims who came forward and supported the investigation, stating that their actions, combined with the proactive police work, likely prevented further harm.

The investigation remains active, and the Metropolitan Police are appealing for any women in Islington and north London who may have noticed unusual activity around their homes, particularly late at night or in the early hours, between January 2020 and March 2026 to come forward. Information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. The investigation team can also be contacted directly via [email protected].
