Paedophile Jeremy Wing dies aged 85 serving life sentence

Jeremy Wing, a convicted paedophile from Chelsfield, died on August 18 at the age of 85. He was serving a life sentence at HMP Bure, a Category C prison in Norfolk for men convicted of sex offences. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman confirmed his death.

Abuse and Conviction

Wing, who worked as a handyman, was jailed in 2002 for sexually abusing two seven-year-old boys at his home in Well Hill. The court heard that he had installed hidden cameras to film the abuse. He pleaded guilty to charges including two counts of rape, 12 counts of indecency with a child, and four counts of taking indecent pictures. He committed these offences alongside Brian Hogg, another convicted paedophile he met in prison.

At the time of sentencing, Judge Andrew Patience QC stated it was "inconceivable" that Wing or Hogg would ever be considered safe for release into the community due to the danger they posed to young boys. The judge was informed of an essay Wing had written in prison 12 years prior, in which he expressed comfort with his paedophilia, describing it as 'child love'. In the essay, Wing wrote, "My problem is not that I am a paedophile. I am quite comfortable and at ease with that condition. You can imprison me, you can destroy me, drive me from my native country but you won't convince me I have done wrong."

Judge Patience ordered the essay to be included with Wing's prison file to ensure his views were clear. He told Wing, "Paedophilia is not love it is lust. Each of you has a depraved and deviant sexual interest in young boys who have no understanding of what you do to them or what you make them do to you. Each of you has destroyed the innocence of two boys. They will never forget what has happened to them. In that sense each of them has a life sentence."
