Hollywood film star Rebel Wilson is being prosecuted in the United Kingdom for failing to insure her Audi Q5. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) alleges the vehicle was uninsured on May 26. The insurance lapse occurred while Wilson was in Los Angeles awaiting the birth of her second child.

Court papers show Wilson, 46, has pleaded not guilty to the charge. She explained that she and her wife, fashion designer Ramona Agruma, spent five months in Los Angeles while Agruma was in the latter stages of pregnancy. The couple returned to London with their new baby on May 28, 2026.

Wilson stated in a written submission that the vehicle was not used during their time overseas and was kept in a private underground garage. She wrote, "Upon our return to London, when I opened the mail, I realized that the insurance for this car had not been purchased." She added, "We are not UK residents and I was unaware of the requirement to keep a car insured. I believed because we were overseas and because the car was not at all in use or parked on the road, that it was OK for the car insurance to temporarily lapse."

The DVLA initially offered Wilson the chance to pay a fixed penalty fine at her Whitehall apartment. As there was no response to this offer, the agency proceeded with a criminal prosecution. Wilson is charged with keeping a motor vehicle which does not meet insurance requirements.

Court Hearing Details

Wilson's case was initially handled under the Single Justice Procedure before being referred to an open court hearing. The case will be heard at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on November 30. It is possible the actress may be required to attend the hearing.
