Sienna Miller: Prenuptial agreements 'defeat the purpose' of marriage

Actress Sienna Miller has voiced her opinion that prenuptial agreements undermine the fundamental purpose of marriage. Miller, who is engaged to actor Oli Green, shared her views at the London premiere of her new legal drama, 'War'.

The eight-part series, written by George Kay, sees Miller star opposite Dominic West. They portray a couple, Carla Duva (Miller) and Morgan Henderson (West), navigating an explosive divorce. The drama delves into the complexities and enforceability of prenuptial agreements within England and Wales.

Skepticism over prenups

Miller, attending the premiere at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square, told the Press Association: “I feel like it kind of defeats the purpose of going into a marriage and making that commitment. But I also understand.” Her co-star Dominic West expressed a more dismissive stance, telling reporters, “I don’t think they are worth the paper they are written on. Waste of time.”

The series 'War' reportedly opens with Miller's character providing evidence to lawyers to demonstrate that Henderson has breached their prenup, initiating a contentious legal battle. The show aims to explore the legal reality that prenuptial agreements are not automatically binding in England and Wales.

Prenuptial agreements are increasingly common in the UK, with research indicating that approximately one in ten couples opt for them. The series, which also features West's affection for legal dramas and their inherent 'twists and turns', is set to premiere on Sky and Now on October 2 in the UK. It has already been confirmed for a second season.
