Sudbury man banned for three years after throwing vape at Bromley FC match

A Sudbury man has been barred from attending football matches for three years after throwing a vape onto the pitch during a Bromley FC game in March. John Kingston, 32, pleaded guilty to throwing a missile onto the playing area at The Copperjax Community Stadium on 21 March. Bromley Magistrates’ Court imposed the ban on 7 August.

The incident occurred during Bromley FC’s 1-0 home victory over Colchester United. Kingston’s ban prevents him from attending any Colchester United matches or England international fixtures, whether in the UK or abroad. The order will remain in place until 2027.

Two other fans also banned

Two additional Colchester United supporters were arrested during the same match. Paul Slasor and Ricky Pygott admitted public order offences in May, involving threatening or abusive behaviour towards Bromley FC stewards. Both men also received football banning orders, though the duration of their bans was not specified in court reports.

The disturbances followed clashes between away fans and stadium staff. News Shopper reported that the offences related to the use of threatening or abusive words or behaviour. The court did not disclose further details about the length or conditions of Slasor and Pygott’s bans.

What the ban means for Kingston

Football banning orders are issued under the Football Spectators Act 1989. They are designed to prevent individuals from attending regulated matches and can include additional conditions, such as surrendering passports during international tournaments. Breaching the order can result in a fine or imprisonment.

Kingston’s ban specifically prohibits him from attending Colchester United matches and England internationals. It is unclear whether the order extends to other clubs or competitions. The court did not impose any additional penalties, such as a fine or community service, alongside the banning order.
