Roman Scott, aged 35, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for five counts of exposure. The offences occurred on trains over a 13-hour period between December 14 and December 15 last year. He was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on September 25. British Transport Police investigated the incidents.

Spree on the railway

Scott began his spree on December 14, boarding a train from Victoria station shortly before 11pm. He sat near two women and began masturbating before being removed from the train by other passengers. The following day, he boarded a train from Southampton to Bournemouth where he again sat near women and masturbated. Upon arrival in Bournemouth, he entered the ladies' toilet and exposed himself to a woman. He then boarded a train to Manchester, where he blocked a young woman and masturbated. He then exposed himself to another woman and made sexual advances. As she moved away, he followed her down the train, forcing her to push past him to escape. He was later found asleep on the train, still exposed, by rail staff who identified him as the same individual from the Bournemouth incident.

Scott told police that his actions were accidental and attributed them to drinking. Following his arrest, he was investigated by British Transport Police.

Court sentence and order

At Salisbury Crown Court on September 25, Scott was sentenced to six months imprisonment for the five counts of exposure. In addition to the prison sentence, he was issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order prohibits him from sitting next to or opposite unknown women on public transport. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for a decade.

“Scott acted appallingly and disgustingly towards a number of women in such a short period of time, repeatedly subjecting them to horrific ordeals for his own sexual gratification.”
— Detective Constable Ewen Roberts, British Transport Police

Detective Constable Ewen Roberts of British Transport Police stated that Scott's behaviour was appalling and disgusting, subjecting women to ordeals for his sexual gratification. He added that there is no place for sexual offending on the railway network and no excuse for such behaviour. DC Roberts expressed satisfaction that Scott had been held accountable with a prison sentence and strict conditions for the next ten years.

What happens next

Following his release from prison, Roman Scott will be subject to the terms of the 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the sex offenders register for the same period.
