Three jailed for Richmond jewellery shop smash-and-grab robbery

Three men were sentenced to a total of 15 years and 6 months in prison on 30 July 2026 for their roles in a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewellery shop in Paved Court, Richmond. Kingston Crown Court handed down the sentences after all three men pleaded guilty. Deniz Mehmet, 28, of Basildon, received five years. Robert Clarke, 50, of Rochford, was sentenced to five years and three months, plus an additional 15 months for a separate offence. Lee Ramsey, 46, of Harlow, also received five years and three months.

Arrests followed forensic investigation

Metropolitan Police arrested two of the men on 31 March 2026 at addresses in Essex. The third suspect was detained on 8 April 2026. Officers from the Met’s Flying Squad conducted the arrests after reviewing CCTV footage, analysing forensic evidence, and tracing a vehicle linked to the robbery.

Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell, who leads the Flying Squad, said the sentences reflected the Met’s determination to tackle such crimes. He emphasised that robberies of this nature cause significant concern for local businesses and residents.

The convictions come as new figures show a 14% drop in neighbourhood offences across London in the 12 months to June 2026. The Met reported 35,000 fewer offences compared to the previous year, including reductions in thefts from persons, personal robberies, and vehicle offences.

Mitchell said the sentences should serve as a warning to those involved in similar crimes. He stated that the Met remains committed to pursuing offenders and holding them accountable, regardless of their location.

The investigation into the Richmond robbery began immediately after the incident. Officers reviewed CCTV footage, conducted forensic analysis, and identified the suspects through painstaking detective work. The arrests followed in Essex, where all three men were located.
