The national service is now called Report Fraud

The City of London Police launched Report Fraud on 4 December 2025 to replace Action Fraud. Members of the public can report fraud and cybercrime through reportfraud.police.uk or the national phone service. Older pages and saved links may still use the Action Fraud name, which is why checking the destination matters.

Contact the organisation that can stop the loss

If a transfer, card payment or account takeover is recent, contact the bank or payment provider through a trusted number or its official app. Ask it to secure the account, trace or recall the payment where possible and record the fraud report. Change compromised passwords from a clean device and do not reuse them.

When to contact local police or 999

The national fraud report creates a record for assessment, but an immediate threat needs an immediate route. Call 999 if someone is present, violence is threatened, or another emergency is in progress. Use the Met’s non-emergency route when there is a local suspect, physical evidence or safeguarding concern that needs local attention and explain that a national fraud report also exists.

Build an evidence timeline

Keep the exact dates, amounts, account or wallet identifiers, telephone numbers, email addresses, website addresses and the sequence of contact. Preserve original messages and files rather than only screenshots. Record the bank and Report Fraud reference numbers so later information can be attached to the same account.
