Essex cricketer Robin Das faces two rape charges

Essex cricketer Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape. The charges relate to an alleged incident in Brixton, south London, on March 30, 2024. The Metropolitan Police stated that the charges followed reports of a woman being raped in the area. The player, who resides in Waltham Forest, east London, was arrested in August last year and subsequently charged in July.

Court proceedings

Robin Das's case was heard at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on September 11, where it was sent to Inner London Crown Court. He is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the woman involved in the alleged incident is being supported by specialist officers.

Club statement

Essex County Cricket Club issued a statement confirming that a male member of their playing staff, currently under contract, had appeared in court. The club stated that the incident took place outside of club activities. They have remained in contact with the ECB, the PCA, the Cricket Regulator, and the player. The club confirmed an immediate and ongoing suspension for the player and stated they will continue to follow all appropriate legal processes and guidance. They added that no further comment would be made due to ongoing legal proceedings. Robin Das, a right-handed batter, made his debut for Essex in 2020 at the age of 18.
