The speedboat killer received a 20-month sentence for assaults that led to his recall to prison.
Jack Shepherd, previously convicted of manslaughter, has been sentenced to 20 months imprisonment for assaulting his girlfriend. The sentence, handed down at Isleworth Crown Court, also includes a further four years to be served on extended licence. Shepherd pleaded guilty to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one charge of damaging property.
The assaults took place in February and June of the previous year. During one incident, Shepherd stabbed his girlfriend with barbecue tongs after she remarked that he had burned a pizza. In another, he pinned down and punched her during an argument. He also committed criminal damage by grabbing and breaking his partner's car keys during a dispute.
Recall to Prison
These latest offences triggered Shepherd's recall to prison, as he was already serving a sentence for a previous manslaughter conviction. In 2018, Shepherd was jailed for six years for the manslaughter of Charlotte Brown, who died when his speedboat crashed on their first date. He had absconded to Georgia during his trial before being extradited back to the UK.
Following his return to the UK, Shepherd received an additional four-year sentence at Exeter Crown Court in 2019 for a drink-fuelled assault on a barman in Newton Abbot. The court heard that his current release date on his existing sentence is January 23, 2029, and the new 20-month sentence will run concurrently.
Court Remarks
Judge Martin Edmunds KC, the Recorder of Kensington and Chelsea, noted that the impact of Shepherd's violence was aggravated by his public profile. The judge expressed scepticism regarding Shepherd's remorse, stating, "Your pattern is to commit offences and afterwards apologise, and produce excuses." The court heard that after his arrest in August 2025, Shepherd initially blamed the victim and suggested she was unstable.
Mitigation on behalf of Shepherd acknowledged his acceptance of responsibility and shame, attributing his behaviour to long-standing alcohol abuse. However, Judge Edmunds stated he placed no faith in these expressions of remorse. Shepherd, who appeared via video link from HMP Swaleside, was a web developer before his convictions.
