Incident → evidence → outcomeHuman remains were found at Bedfont Lakes Country Park in Hounslow on 12 August 2026, prompting a police investigation. Officers arrived at the site after reports of bones discovered near a footbridge close to Edward Pauling School. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the remains are human and are conducting tests to determine their age and identity.
A police cordon has remained in place for over a week while enquiries continue. The exact location of the discovery is near the park’s footbridge, an area frequented by local residents. Police have not released further details about the condition or possible origin of the bones.
Wildfires and unconfirmed claims
Some local residents told MyLondon they believe recent wildfires in the area may have exposed the remains. London Fire Brigade attended two significant grass fires in Feltham earlier in August, but has not confirmed any connection to the discovery.
The first fire, on 2 August, burned around two hectares of scrubland and trees near Watermead in Feltham. Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters from Feltham, Heston, Twickenham, and surrounding stations responded, with support from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The blaze was brought under control by 10.28pm.
A second fire broke out on 5 August near Ambleside Drive, damaging two hectares of shrubland. Four fire engines and 25 firefighters extinguished the flames by 9.40pm. Both incidents drew multiple emergency calls, but neither the fire brigade nor police have linked them to the bones found at Bedfont Lakes.
What happens next
Forensic tests will determine whether the remains are historical or recent. The Metropolitan Police said they will provide updates as the investigation progresses, but no timeline has been given for the results. Residents are advised to avoid the cordoned area while enquiries continue.
