Man arrested after M4 police chase ends in Kew Bridge crash

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after a police pursuit concluded with a three-car collision on Kew Bridge. The incident on September 20 followed an attempt by Metropolitan Police officers to stop a car on the M4 motorway near Heathrow Airport.

Pursuit and Collision

Officers initially tried to halt the vehicle shortly before 2pm after it failed to stop. The driver continued to evade police, leading to a chase that ended when the car was involved in a collision with three other vehicles on Kew Bridge Road.

Following the crash, the 25-year-old driver exited his vehicle and entered the River Thames. He was subsequently apprehended by officers and taken into custody. Enquiries into the incident are continuing.

Injuries and Arrests

A woman in her 80s sustained injuries that were assessed as non-life-threatening and was transported to hospital by the London Ambulance Service for treatment. A man in his 50s was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of several offences. These include failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, theft, and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody.

As is standard procedure for incidents of this nature, the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified.
