Zhenhao Zou: Further evidence file sent to CPSMetropolitan Police (issued for media use)

Detectives investigating Zhenhao Zou, a convicted rapist, have submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). This follows reports from several women who came forward after a public appeal was issued by the Metropolitan Police.

Zou, who was a Chinese PhD student residing in London, was found guilty in 2025 of numerous offences, including rape. His conviction followed an extensive and complex investigation by the Metropolitan Police, leading to a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years.

Further Allegations Considered

After the conclusion of Zou's court proceedings, investigators appealed for any additional potential victim-survivors to come forward, having uncovered evidence suggesting further offending. Since this appeal, several women have contacted the police. Detectives have reviewed each report and ensured those who came forward received support from specialist officers.

The submitted file contains evidence pertaining to several alleged offences, including rape and administering a substance with the intent to commit a sexual offence. This evidence relates to reports from five women who contacted police following the appeal, as well as two further alleged offences of rape involving two women who remain unidentified.

Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Craggs, leading the investigation, acknowledged the courage of the women who have spoken to officers. She stated, "The submission of this file of evidence marks a significant step in our investigation." Investigations into allegations involving women allegedly sexually assaulted in China are also ongoing, with detectives pursuing formal international legal processes.

No charging decision has yet been made concerning any of these additional alleged offences. Detectives are continuing to work with the CPS as prosecutors review the submitted evidence. The Metropolitan Police have encouraged anyone who believes they may have been affected or has relevant information to contact them.
