Northern line sexual assaults prompt CCTV appeal by British Transport Police
Two women were assaulted on separate evenings in early August, with police releasing images of a suspect
Incident → evidence → outcomeBritish Transport Police have launched an investigation after two women were sexually assaulted on the Northern line within days of each other in early August. The incidents occurred at Waterloo station and near Euston station, both during evening commutes.
The first assault took place at Waterloo station at 8.40pm on 1 August. A woman reported that a male passenger exposed himself before leaving the train and boarding another heading northbound. Two days later, at around 8pm on 3 August, a second woman was assaulted near Euston station in similar circumstances.
CCTV footage released
Police have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the assaults. The suspect is described as an older White man of average build, with short, curly white hair and a balding patch on the top of his head. He was wearing black glasses, a blue short-sleeved shirt, and black trousers at the time of the incidents.
British Transport Police stated that the man in the images may have information that could assist their investigation. Officers are urging anyone who recognises him to come forward as soon as possible. Information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers or directly to BTP.
Separate upskirting incident under investigation
In a separate case, British Transport Police are also appealing for witnesses following an upskirting incident at West Ham station. The offence occurred on 24 July during the evening rush hour, when a man reportedly pointed his phone up at a woman using an escalator.
Police have not released images of the suspect in this case but are asking anyone with information to contact them. The incident is being treated as a distinct investigation from the Northern line assaults.
What happens next
British Transport Police continue to appeal for witnesses in both investigations. Residents who believe they may have seen the suspect in the Northern line assaults are asked to contact BTP via text on 61016, by calling 0800 40 50 40, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
No arrests have been made in either case, and police have not confirmed whether the incidents are linked. The investigation remains active, with officers reviewing additional CCTV footage and pursuing further lines of enquiry.
