Alvin Gitahi convicted of murdering partner Vivienne Baraka in Ealing

A man has been convicted of murdering his partner after a Metropolitan Police investigation revealed a history of domestic abuse. Alvin Gitahi, 43, of Uxbridge Road, Ealing, was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court on 6 August 2026. He will be sentenced in October.

Vivienne Baraka, 35, died on 26 March 2024 after police and paramedics found her with neck compression injuries at a home in Riverside Close. Gitahi was arrested at the scene. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death.

Evidence of abuse

Police seized electronic devices from the address, which contained messages between Baraka and Gitahi. The messages, as reported by the Metropolitan Police, indicated repeated abusive behaviour. Phone records also showed Baraka called her mother shortly before her death, saying she was in danger and that Gitahi beat her frequently.

Neighbours told officers they heard a woman screaming before police arrived. Witness statements formed part of the evidence that led to Gitahi’s charge for murder on 8 October 2025. The trial concluded with his conviction nearly a year later.

Family reaction

Baraka’s family described her as a community-focused person who supported others. They said her spirit lives on in her daughter. The family thanked those who supported them during the investigation and trial.

Police response

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Denby, who led the investigation, said the case was devastating. He said Baraka had been subjected to ongoing violence in her own home. Denby added that while the conviction cannot undo the loss, it may bring some closure to her family and friends.

The Metropolitan Police said it has strengthened its response to violence against women and girls. More than 23,000 officers and staff have received specialist training to improve investigations and support for victims. The force encouraged anyone affected by domestic abuse to seek help.

What happens next

Gitahi will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court during the week starting 19 October 2026. The court has not yet set a specific date. Baraka’s family and friends are expected to attend the hearing.
