Four charged with attempted murder after Arsenal parade violence in Islington

Four people have been charged with attempted murder after violent incidents during Arsenal’s Premier League victory parade in Islington on 31 May. The charges follow a day of disorder that left six people stabbed and two Metropolitan Police officers injured.

The arrests were made after a five-mile parade route around the Emirates Stadium attracted up to one million fans. The Met confirmed that 29 people were arrested on the day, with eight others charged for offences including grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and assault on an emergency worker.

Officers injured and vehicles damaged

One police officer suffered a slash wound to the hand, while another was struck on the head by an object thrown from the crowd. Four police vans sustained broken lights and dents during the disorder, the Met said.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Coster, leading the investigation, said the day should have been a safe celebration for families and friends. Instead, a small number of individuals put others at risk. More than 500 officers, alongside specialist search and drone teams, were deployed to manage the event.

While the majority of supporters celebrated without incident, the Met confirmed isolated outbreaks of violence, anti-social behaviour, and disorder. The force is continuing its investigation and has released images of nine men they want to speak to in connection with the incidents.

Public appeal for information

The Met is urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward. Members of the public who recognise the nine men in the released images are asked to contact the police. The force said it is determined to identify those responsible for the violence.

The parade, which marked Arsenal’s first Premier League title win in 18 years, saw players travel through Islington on an open-top bus. Fans lined the streets, with celebrations continuing into the evening.

What happens next

The four individuals charged with attempted murder will appear in court in the coming weeks. The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, with further arrests possible as inquiries continue. The force has not confirmed whether additional charges will be brought in relation to the other incidents reported on the day.
