Jay Archibald jailed for Stratford Overground robbery of teenager’s e-bike and scooter

Jay Archibald, 23, of Loampit Vale in Lewisham, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison at Southwark Crown Court on 21 July 2026. The sentence follows his guilty plea to robbing a 17-year-old boy of an electric bike and scooter at Stratford Overground station on 28 June 2024.

Archibald approached the victim on the platform, grabbed the bike’s handlebars and demanded it, along with the scooter. He threatened to harm the teenager if he resisted or reported the incident. After taking the items, Archibald boarded a Jubilee Line train.

Victim identified Archibald through social media

The victim later recognised his stolen e-bike in social media posts advertising it for sale. Images on the same account showed Archibald, leading the victim to identify him. The incident was reported to British Transport Police (BTP), who attempted to locate Archibald at multiple addresses before arresting him on 29 November 2024.

During a police interview, Archibald refused to answer any questions. He was ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge in addition to his prison sentence.

Impact on victim ‘massive’, police say

Detective Constable Olesia Berdova, who led the investigation, said the victim’s bravery in identifying Archibald helped secure the conviction. She described the robbery as an attack on a teenager travelling alone, whom Archibald believed would be an easy target.

Berdova urged anyone who witnesses or experiences robbery on the railway network to report it by texting 61016. She said BTP would pursue justice for victims and that there is no place for such crimes on London’s transport system.

What happens next

Archibald will serve the majority of his sentence in prison. The £228 victim surcharge will be paid into a fund supporting victims of crime. British Transport Police continue to investigate robberies and other offences on the London transport network.
