Man charged after fatal assault at Liverpool Street Station

A man has been charged in connection with the death of Thomas Jewitt, 32, who died after an assault at Liverpool Street Station. Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, faces charges related to the incident.

Mr Jewitt was attacked on a Central line platform at Liverpool Street Station shortly before 11pm on Sunday, August 30. He had been travelling home from Notting Hill Carnival. Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital, where he died two days later, on Tuesday, September 1, surrounded by his family.

Family Tributes

In a statement issued through British Transport Police (BTP), Mr Jewitt's family described him as "fun-loving, caring and kind." They said he "always looked out for others, and made them feel better." The family noted his "successful career in affordable housing" and a "bright future that was taken away from him too soon," adding he was excited about marrying his fiancée next year. They stated he was "deeply loved by his family, his many, many friends, and his work colleagues" and that they would draw strength from "the wonderful memories" they have of him.

Carnival Arrests

News of Mr Jewitt's death emerged as BTP reported more than 630 arrests were made during this year's Notting Hill Carnival. On Sunday, August 30, 242 arrests were made, with a further 394 arrests occurring on Monday, August 31.

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 799 of 30 August. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
