Leroy Heffron, 38, of Sangley Road, Catford, has been charged with the murder of Thomas Carey. Mr Carey, 39, was found with severe head injuries on Poynders Road, SW4, on 4 September and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Heffron appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 10 September.

Investigation and Arrests

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police were called to Poynders Road on Friday, 4 September, after reports of a man with serious injuries. Emergency services attended but Mr Carey died at the location shortly after their arrival. His next-of-kin are being supported by specialist officers. The victim was from Lambeth.

As part of the ongoing investigation, two men in their 30s were arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, 8 September. A woman, also in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. One of the men has since been bailed pending further enquiries, while the woman remains in police custody.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, leading the investigation, stated that enquiries are continuing. She appealed for anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual on Poynders Road in the evening of Thursday, 3 September, or the early morning of Friday, 4 September, to come forward. Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the local area, acknowledged the concern within the community and advised residents that an increased police presence may be observed in the coming days. She encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to speak with officers on patrol.

The Metropolitan Police are asking for information, including CCTV, doorbell footage, or dashcam footage, to be submitted by quoting CAD7021/04SEP26. Information can also be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
