Police release CCTV of men sought in Tower Hamlets rape investigation

The Metropolitan Police has issued an appeal for public assistance, releasing CCTV footage of two men they want to speak to regarding the rape of a 13-year-old girl. The attack took place in Weavers Fields, east London, on the evening of August 1, 2024.

The victim reported that she was approached by two men on Whitechapel Road who subsequently led her into Weavers Fields. She was then raped. Police were alerted and the victim was found by a member of the public who provided assistance. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30pm.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Deighton, who is leading the investigation, stated that enquiries are continuing. "If you recognise the men in the CCTV we have released with this appeal, please come forward and speak to us," she said. "If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, it is vital you get in touch."

The police have conducted extensive inquiries, including reviewing CCTV, forensic examinations, and speaking with potential witnesses. The released CCTV images are the latest step in their efforts to identify the individuals involved.

The independent charity Crimestoppers has offered a reward of £10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Alexa Loukas, Regional Manager for London at Crimestoppers, emphasised the importance of any information received. "No matter how insignificant it may seem, that piece of information could be crucial in helping secure justice for the victim and her family," Ms Loukas stated.

The victim and her family have been supported by specialist services throughout the investigation. In a statement, the family described the 'devastating impact' of the incident. "Our daughter continues to live in fear for her safety and no longer feels comfortable being on her own," the family said. "She should be enjoying her teenage years, spending time with friends, growing in confidence and looking forward to the future. Instead, so much of that has been taken away from her as a result of this incident."

They added: "While we have done everything we can to support her and stay strong as a family, the impact has been devastating. This has affected all of us in ways that are difficult to put into words. We are asking anyone who knows anything about what happened that night to come forward. Even the smallest piece of information could help provide answers and bring us a step closer to justice."
