Wood Green gunman faces sentence after acquittal on attempted murder

Mustafa Bolat, 29, is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on November 13 after being acquitted of attempted murder and other serious charges. Bolat pleaded guilty on August 17 to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The charges stemmed from an incident on March 1 at WG Express, a corner shop located on Lordship Lane in Wood Green. During a struggle inside the premises, Bolat produced a 9mm Makarov pistol. Three shots were fired from the weapon, but none struck the victim, Ali Unlu, as reported by This Is Local London.

Court Proceedings and Verdict

Bolat had initially faced charges including attempted murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life. However, on August 17 at the Old Bailey, he was acquitted of these counts. He subsequently entered a guilty plea to the charge of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The incident involved a physical altercation between Bolat and Mr Unlu. CCTV footage captured the confrontation, during which Mr Unlu appeared to strike Bolat with a bottle before both individuals fell amongst boxes of fruit. The firearm, a 9mm Makarov calibre self-loading pistol, discharged three times during the struggle.

Sentencing and Next Steps

Bolat's sentencing is scheduled for November 13 at the Old Bailey. The court will consider the guilty plea to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence when determining the sentence.
