Greenford Teen Jailed 25 Years for Kent Murder
Musa Salih lured victim to basement with intent to steal before stabbing him eight times.
A teenager from Greenford has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the murder of 19-year-old Harley Purdue. Musa Salih, aged 19, of Launceston Road, Greenford, was found guilty of murder at Maidstone Crown Court and received his sentence on November 4. The court reduced his sentence by 24 years and 30 days to account for time spent on remand.
The fatal incident took place around 3am on December 2 last year at an address on Thorold Road in Chatham. Mr Purdue's family described him as "the fun, loving, gentle giant that he was." Salih had lured Mr Purdue to a communal basement with the intention of stealing money from his bedroom. When Mr Purdue resisted, Salih stabbed him eight times.
Following the attack, Mr Purdue's girlfriend intervened, and Salih attempted to injure her before fleeing the scene. He was arrested later that same day in Lewisham. A review of Salih's phone revealed he had used an artificial intelligence application to seek legal advice and obtain updates regarding the incident.
Detective Sergeant Alastair Worton stated that the sentencing reflects the seriousness of the crime. He added, "Salih’s plan to steal Mr Purdue’s money in the middle of the night, whilst armed with a knife, has resulted in a man’s death and his own detention for 25 years." He also noted the swift police response and comprehensive investigation that led to Salih's conviction for a crime he denied. Detective Sergeant Worton expressed that the thoughts of the investigation team remain with Mr Purdue's loved ones, whose strength and dignity throughout the process have been commendable. He hoped the sentence would bring them some closure and a sense that justice has been served.
