Jordan Burton guilty of murder over 2006 Lewisham attack

Jordan Burton, 33, has been found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey. The conviction relates to an attack in Lewisham in September 2006 where Daniel Allright, then 16, suffered a serious head injury. Mr Allright died in March 2022 at the age of 31 from post-traumatic epilepsy, the court heard.

The 2006 attack

The Old Bailey heard that Mr Allright was on his bicycle with two friends in Friendly Gardens, Lewisham, when a group of youths attempted to rob them. Mr Allright told police that a Black male, later identified as Burton, asked if he wanted to fight. Burton then struck Mr Allright multiple times with a piece of wood. Two other males joined the assault, using weapons as Mr Allright attempted to defend himself. The group dispersed when a member of the public intervened.

Burton, of Achilles Street, Lewisham, initially denied involvement but later pleaded guilty to violent disorder and unlawful wounding in 2008. During his murder trial, Burton claimed he had been pressured into admitting the assault in 2008.

Fatal consequences

Mr Allright experienced his first seizure in March 2007 and was prescribed medication. His epilepsy condition worsened in the months leading up to his death. He died at his home on March 26 2022, having suffered a fatal epileptic seizure. A post-mortem examination concluded that post-traumatic epilepsy was the cause of death.

Sentencing

Burton is scheduled to be sentenced for the murder conviction on Wednesday by Judge Anthony Leonard KC.
