Lewisham men jailed for £13,000 Woking phone shop robbery

Joziah Carey-Nichols and Ousman Faal, both 22 years old and residents of Lewisham, have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a robbery at a mobile phone shop in Woking. The incident, which occurred on May 3 this year, saw the pair steal mobile phone handsets valued at over £13,000.

The Robbery

The two men entered the shop, located in the Peacock Centre, shortly after 11am on May 3, wearing masks. They forcibly approached a member of staff and demanded that a locked cage at the rear of the premises, where expensive mobile phones were stored, be opened. After placing the stolen handsets into a bag, they fled the scene.

Investigation and Sentencing

Following the robbery, police conducted enquiries that included reviewing CCTV footage, automatic number plate recognition records, and analysing phone data. These investigations identified Carey-Nichols and Faal and traced their movements back to London. Both men were subsequently arrested at their homes on suspicion of robbery and false imprisonment.

At Guildford Crown Court on September 25, both men pleaded guilty to the robbery. Ousman Faal received a sentence of three years imprisonment, while Joziah Carey-Nichols was given a sentence of two and a half years. PC Luke Lightburn, from the Proactive Investigation Team, stated that the investigation team worked to gather evidence and pursue the individuals into London, ensuring the consequences of their actions were brought to them.
