Waltham Forest man jailed for assisting Daniel Khalife

Adeel Khan, 32, from Waltham Forest, was sentenced on Friday, 4 September, at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He received four years and six months' imprisonment after a two-week trial found him guilty of assisting an offender. Khan had previously admitted to possessing a mobile phone in prison, an offence contrary to section 40D(1) of the Prisons Act 1952.

Arranging Cash for Fugitive

During the investigation into Daniel Khalife's escape, officers discovered that Khan had communicated with Khalife via mobile phone. The pair had met while both were in prison. Evidence showed Khan had arranged for Khalife to receive £400 in cash while he was attempting to evade authorities. Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, stated that Khan knowingly assisted Khalife's attempts to evade capture by arranging the cash delivery, which enabled Khalife to purchase items that helped him remain at large.

Khan's details were found in a diary recovered from Khalife when he was arrested. Analysis of mobile phone data confirmed contact between the two men following Khalife's escape. Khan was interviewed in HMP Wandsworth in October 2023.

Second Man Acquitted

A second man, Imran Chowdhury, 26, of Chingford, had also been charged with assisting an offender. CCTV footage showed him meeting Khalife and providing cash. However, Chowdhury was found not guilty following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
