Romanian jailed for life for Walthamstow flatmate murder

Previous Conviction in Romania
The court heard that Neamtu had previously served a 15-year sentence in Romania for a similar killing. In May 2007, he was jailed for that offence, which involved stabbing a housemate in the chest during an argument over money. The circumstances of the Walthamstow murder were described as strikingly similar to the earlier incident.

Neamtu entered the UK as a visitor in September 2023. He failed to declare his previous conviction and his intention to work to UK authorities. As a result, he was an illegal immigrant at the time of Mr Trica's death, the court was told. Neamtu was found guilty of murder following a trial.
