E-bike rider collision leaves Hendon father with life-changing injuries
Victor Arotsky, from Hendon, was knocked into the path of a coach in central London and sustained severe injuries.
Victor Arotsky, a father-of-three from Hendon, north London, has expressed his profound gratitude to the emergency responders who saved his life following a collision in central London. Mr Arotsky was jogging near the Houses of Parliament in June last year when an e-bike rider knocked him into the path of an oncoming coach. The incident resulted in him being crushed under the vehicle and suffering cardiac arrest.
The accident left Mr Arotsky with life-changing injuries, including the complete loss of sight in one eye and partial sight in the other, as well as the loss of hearing in one ear. He spent four weeks in a coma, followed by six weeks in a high dependency ward and a further four weeks in a rehabilitation unit. Paramedics Scott Lummes, Charlotte Miller, and Caitlin Gray were among the first responders who provided critical medical aid at the scene, performing CPR and other life-saving interventions before he was taken to hospital.
Recovery and Gratitude
Speaking about his ordeal, Mr Arotsky, 53, stated that "everything has changed, and nothing has." He recently met with some of the paramedics involved in his rescue. During the meeting, he conveyed his deep appreciation, saying, "I hope you all realise how amazing you are and the vital service you provide. If it weren't for you, my family would be without a father and husband."
Paramedic Caitlin Gray described the rescue as a "team effort," highlighting the swift actions of the paramedics, police officers, and other first responders. She added, "It has been brilliant to meet him again and see how well he is doing. His positivity and sense of humour after such an awful accident is inspirational."
Remarkably, Mr Arotsky has returned to his work and has resumed a rigorous fitness regime, regularly running 6 miles (10km) three to four times a week. He has also made light of his extended absence from the office, jokingly apologising to colleagues for "taking six months to return to the office from my lunchtime run."
