Man dies after Liverpool Street Station assault, charge to be upgraded

A 32-year-old man died in hospital on 1 September after being assaulted at Liverpool Street Station two days earlier. The attack took place on the eastbound Central line platform at approximately 10:51 PM on 30 August, British Transport Police said, as reported by MyLondon.

Emergency services found the victim in a critical condition. He was taken to hospital, where he died with his family present. The victim had been travelling back from Notting Hill Carnival at the time of the assault.

Charge to be upgraded

Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, was charged with grievous bodily harm before the victim’s death. British Transport Police confirmed they will apply to amend the charge to a more serious offence following the death.

Maximo was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on 2 September. The Crown Prosecution Service authorised the initial charge, MyLondon reported.

Police appeal for witnesses

Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn of British Transport Police said the investigation is ongoing. He urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact police.

What happens next

The court will consider the application to upgrade the charge against Maximo at a later date. The next formal step is his appearance at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on 2 September.

British Transport Police have not released the victim’s name. The investigation remains active, and further updates will follow the court proceedings.
