Twelve charged after violent incidents mar Arsenal victory parade in Islington

Twelve people have been charged following violent incidents during Arsenal’s victory parade in Islington on 31 May. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges include attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, assault on an emergency worker and sexual assault. A total of 29 arrests were made on the day.

Two men sustained serious injuries after an assault at the Kings Head pub on Upper Street at 22:31. Earlier that afternoon, a racially aggravated assault was reported on the same street at around 14:30. Police have stated the incidents are not connected.

Police appeal for witnesses

Detectives have released images of individuals they want to identify in connection with the incidents. Detective Chief Inspector Phil Coster, leading the investigation, said the violence disrupted what should have been a safe celebration for fans and families.

More than 500 officers were deployed across Islington for the event, supported by specialist search and drone teams. Police said the majority of the parade passed without incident, with thousands of fans gathering to celebrate Arsenal’s victory.

Other reported incidents

In addition to the assaults on Upper Street, police responded to a report of a person damaging a car on Caledonian Road at 15:15. A separate assault was reported on Highbury Crescent at 16:30, where a woman was injured.

What happens next

The twelve individuals charged will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court in the coming weeks. Police investigations into the remaining incidents are ongoing, with detectives reviewing CCTV and witness statements.
